Steve Dacri had been performing
as a magician all over the world since he was in his early teens.
By 1980, he had appeared on nearly every major television talk
show, including the Tonight Show, Merv Griffin,
Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett, Joey Bishop, and numerous
popular shows such as Allen Funt's original Candid
Camera, thirtysomething, The Fall Guy, Quincy,
and That's Incredible, to name but
a few.
As a writer, he had already written
scripts for television and film production company, and he had
directed many popular TV commercials for such clients as Diet
Coke, Ford, Mountain Dew, and Cinzano.
In 1989, while in New York City
to perfrorm on television, Steve attended "Tony & Tina's
Wedding", the first of the interactive wedding shows. He
was intrigued by the concept of having the audience take part
in the show, but disappointed in the quality of the production
itself. He knew the idea was a good one, and he set out to write
his own show.
Drawing from his extensive experience
as a performer, and his knowledge of comedy and improvisation,
Steve created "Mario & Mary's Wedding",
naming it for the actual names of his (then) mother-in-law and
father-in-law. He staged the show in Stoneham, Massachusetts,
just North of Boston, and it was an immeidate success. The show
ran for many years, in multiple locations, with a cast of 15.
After the first year of performances,
Steve took the show to Florida, and opened it there. In addition,
he created the Jewish-Italian version, "Nathan
& Nina's Wedding", followed by another
variation, "All American High School Reunion."
All of these productions conisstently garnered rave reviews and
sell-out audiences. Read
the history of these shows here.
Direct from Boston, these interactive
dinner shows have been copied and imitated, but they remain
the benchmark of top-notch entertainment.
